  Importance of your Update

   

The Register of Italians residing abroad (  AIR  ) was created by Law 27 October 1988, n. 470 and contains the data of Italian citizens residing for a period exceeding twelve months. It is managed by the Municipalities, based on data and information from consular representations abroad.  THE   inscription on  AIRE is a right and duty of every citizen (Article 6 of Law 470/1988) and is a prerequisite for access to all services provided by consular representations abroad, and for the exercise of important rights, such as: 


. The opportunity to vote for the election and referendum by mail in the country of residence, and for the election of Italian representatives to the European Parliament, in polling stations created by the diplomatic-consular network in countries outside the European Union. 
. The possibility of obtaining the issuance or renewal of identity and travel documents, as well as certifications.
 
. The possibility of renewing the driver's license (only in countries outside the EU for details see section Vehicles – Driving license).
 

                     Must register with AIRE:

 

. Citizens who settle abroad for a period exceeding 12 months. 
. Those who already reside in Italy, born abroad as a result of having acquired Italian citizenship.
 

 

                    No need to register for AIRE  

. People who go abroad for a period of less than one year. 
. State officials serving abroad who are notified under the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic Relations and on Consular Relations of 1961 and 1963 respectively.
 
. Italian soldiers on duty at NATO offices and facilities stationed abroad.
 
. The inscription in
  AIRE is carried out through a declaratory form made at the consulate responsible for the area within 90 days of the transfer of residence and involves the simultaneous elimination of the population (  APR  ) of the municipality of origin. 
. The appropriate application form (available on Italian consulate websites)
  must be accompanied by documentation proving actual residency in the consular district (eg, certificate of residence issued by the residence permit, foreign identity card, foreign accounts for residential use, a copy of the employment contract, etc.). If the application is not submitted in person, it must also be accompanied by a copy of the applicant's identity document. 
Enrollment in AIRE is free. For sending the form via fax, mail, etc. We suggest that you visit the website of the consular jurisdiction to which you belong.

                     The interested party must immediately notify the consular office

– Transfer of residence or housing. 
– Changing the marital status of any transcription in Italy of foreign acts (birth, marriage, divorce, death, etc.)
 
– To definitely return to Italy.
 
– Loss of Italian citizenship.
 
Failure to update information, especially regarding the change of address, which makes it impossible to contact citizens and receive the envelope or ballot in the event of elections.
 
It is important that the Italian citizen communicates
  your address correctly in accordance with the postal regulations of the country of residence.

Cancellation by the author. AIR is as follows:

. by enrollment in the Resident Population (  APR  ) of an Italian municipality after a transfer from another country abroad or return to Italy. 
. by death, including judicially declared presumptive death.
 
. no tracking presumed unless otherwise stated
  proven,  for a period of one hundred years from birth, or after two successive years, or when  the address does not  more valid and no other address can be found. 
. case of
  loss of Italian citizenship.
