Recognition by attribution.

    Children of a Portuguese mother or Portuguese father, born in Portuguese territory;

    Children of a Portuguese mother or a Portuguese father born abroad, if the Portuguese parent is there           Portuguese State Service;

    Children of a Portuguese mother or a Portuguese father born abroad;

    Children of foreigners, born in Portuguese territory, if at least one of the parents was also born here and        reside here;

    Children of foreigners born in Portuguese territory, provided that one of the parents has legally resided there for at least           least five years;

    Individuals born in Portuguese territory and who do not have another nationality.

                               Acquisition recognition  (by effect of will).

    Minor or incapable children of a father or mother who acquires Portuguese nationality;

    Foreigner married or living in a de facto union with a Portuguese national for more than three years;

    Individuals who have lost Portuguese nationality as a result of a declaration when they are underage;

    The one fully adopted by a Portuguese national.

                               Acquisition recognition  (naturalization).

   Foreigners who have been legally resident in Portuguese territory for at least six years;

   Minors, born in Portuguese territory, children of foreigners, provided that one of the parents legally resides here

   for at least five years and that the minor here has completed the 1st cycle of basic education;

   Individuals who have lost Portuguese nationality;

   Grandchildren of Portuguese citizens born abroad;

   Children of foreigners born in Portuguese territory, whose parent(s) have remained in the country, even if           illegally for a period of ten years;

   Individuals who, not being stateless, have had Portuguese nationality;

   Individuals who are considered to be descendants of Portuguese and members of communities of

   Portuguese ancestry;

   Foreigners who have provided or are called upon to provide relevant services to the Portuguese State or the community      national.

                               Special Cases.

​

   Portuguese who, under the previous laws, lost their Portuguese nationality because they acquired another             nationality;

   Foreign women who married a Portuguese citizen before the entry into force of the 1981 Law;

   Portuguese women who lost their nationality for having married foreigners;

   Individuals born in the territory of the former Portuguese State of India and their descendants;

   Individuals born in the former colonies of Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau and São Tomé and Principe and their       descendants, before independence;

   Individuals born in Macau during the Portuguese administration;

   Individuals born in Timor until independence.
